MArine Explorer
The Marine Explorer came on Tuesday and Wednesday the 16th and 17th of October. We were so lucky to have him to come to our school. He showed us a rat’s skull, sheep and a seal bones and we dissected a squid. It was really cool. His name was Padraic and he was really nice. It was really cool to see this. We got to see his shell collection and we discussed what you could use the shells for. I saw a house made out of shells. It was the coolest thing I have ever seen and I also saw a chair made out of shells. He showed us lots of different shells. There was a lobster shell and some other shells too.
He also told us about the big pile of rubbish in the Pacific ocean. This rubbish is ten times the size of Ireland. We need to stop littering to stop the oceans becoming more polluted.
The best part was when we got to see the biggest crab in Ireland - he painted it white to make it stronger so it won't break so easily but still it is so despite that he had to put it in a box.
We also learned that a lobster makes pearls out of little pieces of sand and then spits on it. It can get bigger and bigger until it can not fit in the shell at all and then its dies because it is to squashed and when you take the pearl you have to kill the lobster .
He also showed us how long its takes for things to disintegrate - it was so cool.
