Science week 2017 - Barnacogue N.S.
We always love Science Week in Barnacogue N.S. It is a week when we forget about the books and we get busy investigating! We try to focus as much as possible on science investigations throughout the week and we feel that it is so enjoyable & beneficial!
This year was no different.
Throughout the week we were busy - Designing games using circuits & magnets, to studying centripetal force using a coin and a balloon. We studied the effects of exercise on our heart rates and we compared the link between height & shoe size. We built a lego car that could be moved by magnetic force. We also designed & built rockets and rafts, tested everyday items for starch and harvested our vegetables from last season!!
The week also included our senior classes - 3rd to 6th classes, taking part in a Science Challenge organised by Mayo Science & Technology Festival. We travelled to the Mc William Park Hotel in Claremorris to compete with other schools. In teams of 4 we had 30 minutes to construct a raft that would support a number of marbles, using craft sticks and rubber bands! We had a fantastic day out and one of our teams came in fourth place.
